Document Summary

In english, the infinitive form of a verb usually includes to, as in to like. French, it is identified by the ending of the verb. The largest group of french verbs has infinitives that end in -er. These regular -er verbs have the same conjugation pattern. To conjugate the verb aimer, remove the infinitve ending - er and add the endings shown in bold type in the chart. Verbs of preference (aimer, adorer, d tester, pr f rer) can be followed by a noun or an infinitive. Nous aimons habiter sur le campus we like to live on campus. To express how much you like something, you can use one of the adverbs shown here. Je n"aime pas du tout les films policiers. Because aimer means both to like and to love, aimer bien is used to clarify that like is intended. To make a verb negative, frame it with the negative markers ne and pas.
