People is trying to make thing more efficient using waste output as a input of others. Urban industrial ecology where you re-engineer processes to change waste product input to other industry. People also use metabolism like we eat food and then we converted it to sugar, different nutrients The world leaders try to look at cities as metabolic process. The overall metabolic processes is trying to look at everything going in & out. There are some species who live in cities can"t survive that well in natural world. For example, in wood of ontario, you get brown squirrels that is small, in cities you get giant black squirrels. We create monocultures by creating different habitat. Some trees need a lot of spaces for root system.
