The english were not able to trade with the dutch: the dutch had no interest in settlements, the dutch got along with the aboriginals (defeats the purpose of trading with the english) New amsterdam: had a wall to separate itself from others (like a border, the origin of wall street, people spoke 18 languages in new amsterdam, people were very religious (catholics, protestants, etc. )
