Pachomius (292-348: the first founder of monasticism in the egyptian desert, the importance of the early monasticism goes into praying for the salvation of mankind. The church develops out of the roman empire but it develops throughout the middle. The religious order and monastic order goes hand in hand: mo(cid:374)as: lati(cid:374) for (cid:858)alo(cid:374)e(cid:859) Monasteries were often placed on frontiers: charlemagne gave enormous amounts of land to the church. Ho(cid:449)e(cid:448)er, the (cid:858)mother house(cid:859) does (cid:374)ot ha(cid:448)e (cid:373)ore po(cid:449)er o(cid:448)er the (cid:858)daughter house(cid:859) The two kinds of houses had to respect the word of god and not commit. Nobody had to rent a place in town in order to sell their goods; they received more money than they needed. Wealth was difficult to maintain such that, by the 10th century, the monasteries like the rest of society became feudalized. The cluniac experiment was so successful that clooney became rich: there was a mother house at clooney and a lot of daughter houses.
