About 97% of the water on earth is locked up in oceans and are unavailable to us. 3% is fresh water: it is decreasing, 70% of this is frozen, 29% is underground water (soil aquifers, <1% is what we rely on. California drought: almost entirely drying up rivers, farmers started using old school methods for finding water. Water is expected to be more scarce. Many places are having less than usual rain fall. Growing water scarcity and other social economic theories are merging: the change in water availability is influencing other things. Every year trees will add on a ring to their profile. Based on the characteristics of those rings, you can tell the pervious availability of water. Very small rings in trees reflect very dry periods. Mayan collapse: it was able to show why civilizations were abandoned. This collapse happened very quickly and violently: their collapse corresponds with the driest period. We are not getting water from anywhere else.
