[spec, tp] has an epp feature that triggers dp movement in english: eep feature: every sentence must have a subject in the [spec, tp] In irish, there is no epp feature: thus, there is no overt dp movement into [spec, tp] In (7b), john gets a theta role from eager and the pro gets one from leave: pro refers to john.
