Power achieved by the threat of negative consequences (violence, threats, bribery, etc. ) State power: an entity that is embedded into society, and one that we live with everyday. The state is a human community that successfully claims a monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force within a given territory (weber) Government refers to the set of organizations that make, enforce, and administer collective public decisions for a society. Politics is the practice of attempting to influence these decisions.
