Document Summary
James-lange: this theory holds that the stimulus in the environment triggers a physiological response, and that physiological response triggers an emotional response, bear increased heart rate experience of fear. Cannon-bard theory: cannon-bard theory holds that stimulus activates the physiological and emotional state simultaneously. Major brain structures involved in emotional processing: two major neural related to emotion. The amygdala is a relatively primitive part of the limbic system that quickly processes biologically relevant info. Prefrontal cortex is a relatively advanced part of the brain that slowly processes info rationally. Emotional regulation: as adults, we are quite good at regulating our emotions, but it"s a (cid:272)o(cid:373)ple(cid:454) task, there are a lot of factors to deal with while regulating emotion. The more emotional we are, the harder they are to control. Emotional regulation throughout the lifespan: emotional regulation involves learned strategies, for the first 6 months, infants do not appear to self-regulate their emotions.
