Felt lonely thought crazy for trying to kill herself. 2003 jumped off balcony: became paralyzed. 2006 almost wanted to suicide again: diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Individualized mental experience about what it is, how to treat it, etc: every patient is different. Mood disorders: difference between feeling depressed and actually having a disorder. 17% prevalence very common: chronic depression symptoms there for more than 2 years. Lots of comorbidity, younger onset: more common in woman, maybe due to ruminative coping. Less prevalent: mood of intense elation, hyperactivity, talkativeness, grandiose plans, onset in 20s, equal incidence b/w men and women but presentation is different. Males have more manic while female have more depression: relapse in 12 months. At least 5 symptoms for at least 2 weeks. Have reduced insight don"t see anything wrong with them causing relapse and legal/financial.
