Person gives up or cuts back participation in many activities because of substance. Delirium tremens (dts) tremors/shaking, hallucinations happens when alcohol level drops dramatically. Short-term effects unstoppable, confidence increases, more social: determinants whether or not you feel the effects. Long-term effects of prolonged alcohol abuse biological damage to organs, malnutrition. Legal substance used in couples therapy in 50-70s to help people open up about feelings. Became popular drug of choice used for recreational use. Short-term effects changes brain chemistry, behaviour, elevated mood. Mdma was found to only contain 8% ecstasy therefore very little is known about pure ecstasy.
