Document Summary

From cognitive models to contrsucting carefully designed experiments. Stimulus enters nervous system response/output. We have things in the world that enter our mental system and ultimately we have some sort of response. Carefully designed experiment e. g. to study language that will engage mental processes involved in the task that you"re trying to target the output of your thinking will result in behavioral dependent variables (accuracy/reaction time) You cannot directly study the mind because it"s not tangible so you use information you can observe to infer how thinking in happening. Cognitive models are created to describe the various steps hypothesized to be involved in a cognitive process (e. g. , reading) When creating such models, researchers should be mindful of the following: What is this model trying to describe? (clearly specified) be specific. Are the steps and linkages in this model reasonable to hypothesize? (realistic elements) Is this the simplest model we could create to describe this process? (parsimonious)
