Diff cultures put emphasis on diff things: parenting styles. Explicit cultural differences, because diff cultural have very diff expectations & diff rules on hat parenting should be like and it. Through diff parenting styles, cultural differences will emerge: cultural acquisition. Doesn"t happen in just childhood, but happens through the life span and it starts at childhood. Erikson"s stages of psychosocial development: theoretical concept: at each stage, child suffers an existential crisis, there are comepteing goal tendencies, each stage is dependent on the culture they come from, basic trust vs. mistrust. Child learns whether or not that they can trust their parents for meeting their needs. Positive outcome: if met in successful way, the child learns to trust other people and it grows w/ hope. Negative outcome: if not, child doesn"t trust anyone when growing: autonomy vs. shame/doubt. Toddlers learn to exercise will and they wanne do things for themselves. They will learn skills like walking, getting stuff.
