Document Summary

Number of ways in which emotions are expressed: touch, posture, vocal, and facial. If you remember descartes he brought up this idea in the 1600s, doing something physically might make a change. Part one: emotions influence expression: approaches from three different schools of thought. Important to look at them distinctly because they have different stances about emotion expression. The first theory is basic emotions theory: basically darwinism, emotions are biologically determined, emotions have consistent patterns of expression that are universal. The idea here is that emotions are biologically ingrained and therefore every instance of the six basic emotions should be more or less physiologically the same, they are neurologically ingrained in us, The second theory is appraisal theories of emotions: cognitive appraisal is important in producing emotions. Not every single stimuli is going to produce an emotion state. What they think is that each emotion is produced regardless of elicitor. Each emotion still has a unique bio-behavioral output.
