Document Summary
There is an imbalance among emotions: depression too much negative affect on our positive affect. Emotional responses may be inappropriate: ex. when internet is slow, throwing computer off the balcony. Poor emotion regulation: the capacity that we all have to reign in our emotional responses. All of these negative emotions have some sort of adaptive purpose. Ex. sadness build social bonding, find care, be nurtured but in emotional disorders it goes above and beyond that. Studies in mental health suggest that a balance is important. Two modes of mind: sensory/perceptual mode of mind just our sense. Seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, tasting: verbal and conceptual.
