Within-species competition for resources, within-species differences not everyone has the exact same genotype/phenotype, phenotype tied to genotype example of strength. Picture of moth: these are called peppered moths and are good at camouflaging themselves in leaves, tree trunks, etc. making them more likely to survive. England during the mid-late 1800s, the smoke coming from the factors made the tree trunks really black. Some moths look like the one on the slide but a small % were black. Within less than 50 years, being a black moth is more favourable in that environment making them survive instead of the peppered moths and 98% were black. Even though they don"t need these expressions, it"s still with them after all this time because it was helpful for their ancestors. Now, expressions help us navigate our social environment.
