Boys want to be construction workers/ fixing cars while girls want cook and clean: but they might not have an understanding of gender constancy yet. Gender stays constant over time and wearing girls clothes doesn"t influence gender. Appears at age 4-5 but develops at the age of 7. These rules appear more in preschool from socialization agents mentioned earlier. Sex: biological dimension of being male or female. Gender role: set of expectations on how they should think, act or feel. Gender role stereotype: broad categories that reflect our impression and belief about females and males- image of what typical male and female would be like. 3 nature of gender roles: toy preference: by age 3 there is a clear pattern of choices; boys develop this faster. 1985 obrian and huston: give children set of different play toy based off of gender and a neutral one (total 3), results show a gender pattern.
