Document Summary

Week 11 lecture #9: march 15, 2016. Overview: general overview of systemic therapies, specific systemic therapies, review couples eft. What happens early in life contributes to the relationship later in life (attachment styles) Vary in intervention styles (directive or collaborative therapist styles) Usually involve psychoeducation; teaches the client about their symptoms, usually teaching other people in the unit about the psychopathology and how to support the individual. Yes, systematic therapies seem to work; they are better than no treatment at all, wait list & individual therapies for certain aspects. But there are different levels of efficacy across different types of systemic therapies. Treatment modalities: individual therapy, couple"s therapy, family therapy, group therapy. Group therapy tends to look a lot like individual therapy because it"s less about treating a unit. The context of systemic therapies: contextless = meaninglessness, patient is the entire system, not the identified patient, systems = parts + relationships among those parts.
