Document Summary

There is an imbalance among emotions: 2. Emotion regulation = capacity to control emotional responses: 4. What appears to be disordered is actually adaptive, albeit to an atypical and challenging context. Two modes of mind o: this is the problem for emotional disorders and the proposed solution is mindfulness. What is mindfulness: present moment awareness. Not thinking about past or future, focusing on here and now: non-judgmental acceptance of emotions, thoughts, sensations. Not pushing emotion away, but accepting it o. Unpacking acceptance : fusion with your thoughts. Your thoughts are real and are a part of you makes us more judgmental of ourselves: evaluation of experience. Constantly judging and ruminating on your past experiences: avoidance of your experience. Trying to push uncomfortable thoughts away isn"t good: reason-giving for your behaviour. Trying to explain and justify your past behaviours: vs, accept your reactions and be present. Don"t label or judge anything, just accept how it is: choose a valued direction.
