Document Summary

Some jobs (e. g. , physician) are more important than others (e. g. , janitor). To motivate people to make the sacrifices necessary to train for important jobs. Position open to talented and qualified persons of any group. E. g. , president roosevelt (c+ student so grades doesn"t justify best ) How do we determine which jobs are most functionally important? i. e. contribute more to society. Lot of sick people so time to impact quick and very critical and replace ability isn"t quick. Time to impact is immediate (people stop obeying traffic rules) Replace ability is medium (following day can bring in army) Critical (depending on season and people can hold out garbage, dumbs etc) Replace ability (highly and easily replace able) Critical (businesses will lose money, city run out of gas, imported food etc) Quite replace able (army could move goods etc . ) Much wealth is inherited: leagacy positions (harvard) Occupations preserve scarcity: use power to limit access, credentialism.
