Membranophone sound is produced by vibrations of a stretch membrane that is struck or rubbed: eg. Drums snare, timpani, tambourine: definite pitch e. g. timpani, indefinite pitch e. g. snare drum. ***idiophones and membranophones may be untuned (indefinite pitch) or they may be capable of producing a variety of pitches (definite pitch)
