In order for the composer to create that music, there needs to be somebody on the other end of the equation. Has the sophistication of a listener to consume the music. All have a high degree of sophistication as listeners - we can associate music with places in time. Even if a person describes musical experiences in the technical language of music, he is in fact describing emotional experiences which he has learned to associate with particular musical sounds. Emotional experiences that we link to a pattern of sounds. We are given communication and we know how to process and comprehend it. Society likes to categorize music (classical, jazz, etc. ) We take these and associate with types of people in society and make judgements. Saying certain music is more worthy (or more worthwhile) to listen is inadequate. All music is equal, communicates its own ideas. Think of whatever you are listening to as a mode of communication.
