Defining a person as male or female actually requires making determinations on a number of variable dimensions. Dimorphism: division of the human population into categories of female or male ; foundation of sex and gender thinking belief; only 2 sex categories exist. Dichotomy: to classify by division into two. Dualism: the doctrine that in any domain of reality there are two separate and distinct underlying principles. Insists that all sex belongs in one or the other gender; male or female; rejects ambiguity (no inbetween) Are females that opposite of male: opposite sex; whatever females are, males cannot be that. Gender: the assignment of masculine and feminine characteristics to bodies in cultural/social contexts. All expected and actual thoughts, feelings and behaviors associated with masculinity and femininity.
