Document Summary

Bio130 lecture 11: transcription part ii and translation. Eukaryotes: tata box sequence, binding protein that, together with tafs and transcription factor 2d recognize. Recruit other transcription factors a and b, help with transcription of rna polymerase. Bends dna in almost 90 angle, acts as sign post so rest of transcription factors bind as well. Tfiif comes in, helps with positioning of binding proteins. Tfiih regulated by tfiie, tfiih very important and big, has helicase domains and activity, can open up helix. Also has kinase domain, can act as kinase, phosphorylates proteins, phosphorylates amino acids (adds phosphorus on) Rna polymerase ii can get going with transcribing, transcribes short transcript that gets cast off, can"t get going into processing mode until tfiih phosphorylates serine 5s. Tfiih kinase domain phosphorylates 5th amino acid (serine) Changes conformation of rna polymerase ii until it can go into processive mode. Phosphorylation of c-terminal domain acts to recruit processing proteins that are needed to process mrna.
