Nobody can understand policing and crime but those who have worn the badge and patrolled the streets. Makes it difficult for police to take advice from outside. They don"t respect authority of politicians, etc. Perspective towards public: either with us/against us mentality. loyalty to your colleagues first (brotherhood) Don"t tend to accept criticism from the outside impossible to fight crime effectively without being the rules. They believe that in reality, procedural justice puts too much obstacles in policing. It is referred to as phenomenon of moral cause corruption. The media and members of the public are generally unsupportive and quick to criticize the police unless they need one. Detective work (either undercover or major crime units) more mentally challenging works are rewarding. Watch out fro your partner (patrol officers). The code of silence: do not talk badly about other officers. Publicly testifying against other officer -> death of career as police officer.
