Often have a high percentage of their kills stolen or lost. Ferocious from a young age but not as ferocious as the other big cats. Not every stakeholder believes cheetahs are cool. Threats (biggest drivers but there many more: habitat conversion, persecution. Thought of as a pest and being poisoned or shot. They are not staying the game preserves because there are other large predators there: killing their cubs and taking their kills, start preying on livestock, loss of prey, agriculture. Conversion of savannah land into thorny bush. Harder area for cheetah to hunt in. Need open areas to run fast enough to pick up speed to catch prey: disease as a result of low genetic diversity. Went through a bottleneck at the last ice age. Were not able to build back before anthropogenic effects lowered their numbers: tourism. Distribution: was all throughout africa and through the area into china, now in pockets in africa and few parts of asia.
