Hmb265: lecture 10 - population genetics (oct. 10) Double recombinants: cross between a and b as well as b and c. Observed frequency of double recombinants = 2/1000. Interference = observed frequency/expected frequency of expected recombination. So far looking at genetics at individual level. But most organisms live in populations and interact w/ each other. Population genetics: study of genetics of a population and how the alleles vary with time. Population: interbreeding group of same species within a given geographical area. Gene pool: collection of all alleles in members of population. Can relate individual level genetic processes with populations if investigate a few phenomena. [1] migration (movement of individuals through populations = alleles move through population) Creates new combinations of alleles and traits. Differences in reproductive rates and ability to survive dependent on different genotypes. = all factors that can change genotypic/allelic frequencies. Phenotypic frequency: proportion of individuals in population that express specific phenotype.
