My textbook says that the average length of a human chromosome is 140 cM (centimorgans). But how is it possible? I mean, since a frequency of recombination of 1 % indicates that two genes are separated by a distance of 1 cM, if we consider a gene in the 3' extremity of a chromosome and another gene in the 5' extremity of the same chromosome, their frequency of recombination should be 140%! What am I doing wrong?
