Earliest source of the law: 1) the covenant code: mostly dealing with agricultural maters, antedate monarchy, exodus 21:1-23:19, 10 commandments (decalogue) logue=logos, deca=10. Show up twice in the bible: exodus 20:2-17, deut 5:6-21. Minor diferences: one says that the israelites should keep the sabbath as a commemoraion that god helped them escape , and another because , honor thy mother and father. Order of father and mother dif in both: priestly code. Brought from northern kingdom of israel ater the destrucion by the assyrians. During the persian king period, darius (compiled around late 400-500bc) Outside babylon , they made this law code to preserve their cultural idenity. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, ** we don"t know that any of these law codes are actual laws used for judicial purposes. This is prob an eliist idea on how religious law should be. Normal israelites might not even know about these codes.
