Prof thinks the world is a more dangerous place place because of the threat to liberty and equality global threat because of the election results. Politics in society is poised to get more mean. What we can do: equip ourselves with the tools of push-back. W. wanted to include women in this domain of human rights, and to push for a deeper conception of equality. 17 articles in the constitution: 1) only for men idea that people remain equal in life, means political life must maintain equality and freedom (criticism of social contract theory) justification of social distinction based on common utility/welfare/good. Distinctions can be good if they serve the common good overall: 2) justifies property in commercial society there is no mention of the right to life, 3) and 6) sovereignty in the nation, but representatives are allowed. Citizens were white males over 25 who own property: 4) and 5) ability to do whatever does not harm another.
