Document Summary

Reduce exogenous cortisol, or remove tumor by surgery (permanent cortisol replacement), or prescribe meds to control cortisol production (inhibit 11-beta hydroxylase) a. b. For control: inhibit the enzyme that creates the active hormone. Menopause causes more expression of rank which promotes osteoclast creation. Means more bone will be lost than gained back from osteoblasts. If bones if embryo were ossified, it would not be comfortable for the mother. Bones will no longer elongate at this point - it can shrink, however. The dividing area is where the gaps exist on an extra. Right: adult - bones fully grown and no more growth expected. Gaps shown on the left are the bone plates - this is where growth takes place. Gaps will close in the adult - no more elongation. But growth spurs can occur where it widens. Growth control: integration of multiple inputs - regulates bone growth. Chart below shows what hormones are active for bone growth.
