Document Summary
Cell mediated: uses contact-dependent signaling, immune cell binds to target. Active: body exposed to pathogen, produces own antibodies naturally or artificially acquired i. e. via invasion, vaccination vaccinate with antigen/disabled pathogen. Passive: acquire antibodies from another organism naturally or artificially acquired i. e. via mother, vaccination vaccination with antibodies. Primary response: occurs after initial exposure: antibody production in plasma cells slower, lower in magnitude. Clone: group of lymphocytes that bind particular ligand: develop after pathogen appears in rapid cloning, clonal expansion creates additional cells to fight infection, newly formed clone cells differentiate further. B lymphocytes: develop in bone marrow: clones differentiate into specialized cells secreting antibodies, mature cells insert antibodies into cell membrane to become receptors, receptors mark members of each clone, clone responds to antigen exposure, effector cells differentiate. Effector cells: carry out immediate response, die in days. Memory cells: continue reproducing, long lived subsequent antigen exposure activates memory cells, causes expansion.
