Document Summary
Taking shortcuts opens us up to biases, which were often unware of. These biases can create all sorts of problems . Biases can even create their own reality: because perception behave our consequences: ex. Imagine if you believed everyone was a lying, manipulative, selfish cheater who would take advantage of you at the first opportunity : expectations end up changing your own behaviour; your behaviour changes the other person"s behaviour/actions. Word, zanna & cooper study: differential treatment occurs from one group to another and how it effects them. Evaluations of essays, resumes, classical music performances, etc. , based on race & gender: unconsciously, men, attentions less heavily weighed on mistakes, teacher expectations and children"s iq (rosenthal & jacobson; the pygmation effect) Biases are often based on our motivations, which can alter the information we pay attention to, the information we dredge up from our memories, and the meaning that we read into our experiences.
