Document Summary
Perceptual process (vision as primary/standard example) - top down process. Sensory receptors - might pick up alterations at sound gate/smell - register reality to make contact. Visual perception: light energy -> chemical processes -> trigger neural activity (biological representation of reality) - experience transmutation/translation of world. 3. transduction: physical energy of stimulus -> electrical energy -> pulses to brain. 4. thalamus: sends information to sensory processing areas via neural pathways into appropriate areas - doctrine of specific nerve energies (smell does not go through thalamus) 5. primary sensory cortex: initial processing of information. 6. further processing in other brain areas -> higher level cognitive & perceptual tasks (what/ where pathways) 7. deciding and acting: other brain areas (memory, planning, motivation, self-control, etc. ) decide -> notify motor cortex -> communicate appropriate actions to muscles in body. Objective perception - associations made to object.
