Internalized reward/punishment system and hooked it up to self-esteem: good mark = validation, bad mark = you feel bad. Motivation will diminish if you experience many blows to ego. Identified & integrated regulation: personal valuation and importance, integration w/ values, life goals, self concept, etc: congruent w/ deep sources of personal meaning. Intrinsic regulation/motivation: doing things for sake of doing, engagement, flow, enjoyment, growth, challenge, etc.
