Lecture 9 (october 9th, 2012) Classical (or pavlovian) conditioning: occurs when we learn that two types of events go together. Operant (or instrumental) conditioning: occurs when we learn that a behaviour leads to a particular. Associate two things that weren"t associated before, a passive response. Learning a certain behaviour because it leads to punishment/rewards outcome. Unconditioned stimulus (us) dog sees food. Unconditioned response (ur) dog salivates upon seeing food. Conditioned stimulus (cs) bells rings when food is present. E. g. present a red light together with the bell, and eventually the dog will salivate in presence of the light. Phobias: phobias are acquired fears that are out of proportion to the real threat of the object or situation. Been conditioned to think that a certain result will follow some stimulus (e. g. all dogs will bite) Can be formed in one trial, even if the illness doesn"t occur right away.
