Document Summary
The nervous system: encompasses all the nerves in your body. Central nervous system = brain and spinal cord. Brain: brain = centre of all thoughts, feelings, decisions, etc, brain receives, integrates, and sends info to and from all parts of your body, adult human brain weights about 3 pounds. Grey and white matter: grey matter = dendrites and cell bodies, white matter = myelinated axons. Brain in 2d sagittal view coronal view axial view. Bumps and grooves: gyri (gyrus) = bumps, sulci (suclus) = grooves. Neuroglial cells: glia - support cells in the brain important glial cell = oligodendrocyte (known as schwann cells outside the brain , myelinates neurons this allows for faster transmission of action potential. Electroencephalography (eeg: brain activity"s recorded from several electrodes placed on scalp records changes in electrical activity that arises during neuronal firing. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fmri: powerful magnet records increase/decrease in blood flow in the brain.
