Document Summary
There is no line between normal and abnormal, the distinction is an allusion, we all have the same processes, just the degree of change differs. A huge amount of our functioning is defensive. So much of our processing of our perception is defensive, its there to make us feel good. We all have a handy schema available to us which we see people through, and this schema is ourselves. Our primary lens thru which we look at social reality is ourselves. The general assumption (usually left unexamined) that we see reality accurately, correctly, that we are normative, we make sense. We therefore can useour understanding of ourselves as a bias from which we judge others. People who are similar to us are obviously also nice, decent people like we are (cid:271)ut people (cid:449)ho differ fro(cid:373) us well, they are weird, uncommon. We tend to think we are normative better than the average person.
