Document Summary

Attachment is like an emotional memory, laying the foundation for our emotional systems, our basic sense of security and trust in others. Attachment experiences build associative networks that reflect these experiences, forming our schemas" for ourselves & others. The mother is associated with the reduction of the primary drives -- particularly hunger, thirst, and pain -- and through learning, affection or love is derived. For 3 years they separated monkeys from mothers and nursed them and showed that they grow up healthy (sometimes even healthier because of controlled death) Also noticed that those that had more warmth (cloth) lived longer. Spent more time with the cloth mother than the wire mother, not all about food. Affection (warmth, acceptance, love, responsiveness, touch, etc. ) may be a fundamental aspect of our character, a basic need. Lately there has been less physical contacts between parent and child (have strollers that hold them, play sets etc. )
