Document Summary

The gap b/t our experience and reality. Highly functional - allowing our brains to function super-efficiently, with a small cost of accuracy. Different ways to process: come from the world, go to the eyes, go to the brain, and we interpret it. Pure bottom up process - coming from the world, sensation - turn it into some of interpretation. Top down processes - coming from the experience, memory, interpreted center. When cannot decode: never experienced before; missed these aspects of reality; Brain is also a high motivated thing: see certain ways to justify what we are. When some patterns changed, you r guessing what it is. Reality = story - told to us by our brain. Implications - live in a constructed world. We take shortcuts: heuristics (rules of thumb) - we use it unconsciously. Stereotypes - beliefs (women, men, young, tall, short) - guide our information processes. Subtler, implicit, unconscious signals - being guided by stereotypes, body sensation.
