Document Summary

*wont ask about speci c function of a small part of an area. How do we learn to perceive in the rst place: Raised kittens from birth were only allowed to see out of one eye. Cells in visual cortex respond almost entirely to signals from the normal eye. Blocked eye is functionally (was still intact) disconnected from brain. Research 2: more cats - hirsh & spinellia. Raised kittens with two functional eyes but one eye was only exposed to vertical stripes and the other to horizontal stripes. Result: cortical cells had become specialised for the input from only one eye, and responded to only the kind of stimuli which that eye had been exposed to. Basically, red only response to horizontal/ vertical stripes (dependent on which cat) Research 3: more cats - blakemore & cooper. Put in room with vertical lines, cat had large cone to not see tail.
