Personality is a characteristic pattern of thinking, feeling and behaving that is unique to each individual, and remained relatively consistent over time and situations. One major challenge: developing measures of people"s personalities; two approaches: idiographic approach, focusing on creating detailed descriptions of a specific person"s unique personality characteristics. Factors that predict certain behaviours across people in general. Predictors of alcohol, drug use in university students. Moral personality seeking the personality factors that predict courage and heroism. Key is to identify important traits related to what you are interested in. A personality trait describes a person"s habitual patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving; how that person is most of the time : predict how that person will behave across a range of different situations. Remarkably easy for people to be convinced that a personality profile describes them well; can occur even when profile is patently false and wasn"t generated to describe them at all the barnum effect .
