Benefits can be scary and we live in our heads. We often flee from our emotional selves. We can stimulate our emotions, but its not the same as the actual thing. Thinking our way into things is very hard. Top down bottom up processes (feedback loop: happen simultaneously, instantaneous mutual causation, positive feedback loops tend to grow really quickly, all else being equal. Small cause can escalate into big impact. Old man hated noise, promise awards to kids in reward to play, less and less money until they left: more reward = outcome? (nope) Because reward, okay cool : person goes from attributing the fun from the thing to the reward, interest becomes contingent on the reward, the stronger extrinsic motivations are, are suck the intrinsic motivation out of you. Motivation has a lot to do about how we think (top down processes) as opposed to behaviourist approaches.
