Norm of social reciprocity: if i do a favour for you, you owe me one. A universal norm, some form of it exists in almost all societies. There"s a confederate there who the participant thinks is another volunteer. The confederate goes to the vending machine and brings the participant a coke. The confederate is trying to sell tickets to the participant. And they buy the tickets bc they feel obligated to reciprocate the favour. So even if we don"t know the person or don"t like them, we return the favour even if the person won"t ever know whether we did or not. Door in the face technique: first, a large request that is expected to be refused. Then, a smaller request that looks like a concession. Then the person feels obligated to make a concession in return. Trying to get ppl to accompany juvenile delinquents on a zoo trip.
