Document Summary

Physical and mental aging are linked together - slowing down the process doesn"t stop aging. Not too old to start preventing aging. Course organized around this view - complex interaction of 3 processes. Social processes and resources play a large role. Identity: a composite of how people view themselves in the biological, psychological and social domains of life: sense of self in each of the three domains. Continuity principle individuals remain the same even though they change: continuous, always having even with previous changes, same in your identity even though you are changing. People who live to old age are the ones who managed to outlive the many threats that could have caused their deaths at earlier ages. Survived - have a bene t toward others. In general, older people are better at avoiding bad behaviors. Different than other groups that are being studied - not taking entire population into consideration which can skew data.
