Document Summary

Have to mine for the components of cell phones. Material called coltan: columbite and tantalite. Unstable area in democratic republic of congo. Artisanal mining can be very damaging for the environment. Recyclable resources: we can use them again and again, not energy resources. Common property resources: resources owned by people in common, ex. Park in mississauga: can be difficult to regulate how people use that resource. Living growing things regenerating populations: fish, trees, etc, some energy resources. Stock is renewable at least in theory: living pop stocks can be mismanaged to the point where the pop crashes irretrievably. Managed differently from non-living earth resources: trying to balance stocks and flow, enough coming in to equal what is being taken out. Critical flow resources: rate of withdrawal is higher than rate of replenishment, resource becomes effectively non-renewable. These are all being created all the time but they are not created on a humanly-accessible timescale.
