Measured lower chlorophyll in ocean than before. = reduction in amount of primary producers in ocean. = less food for everyone else who depend on phytoplankton for survival. Have seen shifts within diatom group itself: ex: aulacoseira form long filaments of several individuals. = heavier since a lot of them stuck together. = sink faster: cyclotella are smaller and lighter and sink slower, in 1850 have switch where cyclotella has been a lot more abundant, so shift in composition of species.
