Lecture 2 (corresponds to chapter 5): learning the rules culture and socialization. These groups of people associate themselves differently and realize that the world perceives them as distinct. Those who are culturally deaf believe that canadian hearing society should help those that are deaf to live in a barrier-fee world where autism and ableism are rampant. This condition should not be viewed or treated as a medical mode of disability; deaf is a lifestyle not a disability that one should avoid or overcome. Culture is a filter through which we view and understand the world. In general, we learn culture through socialization, then enact it through everyday behavior. Cultures are non-rational no absolutely right and wrong better/worse cultural values. People only act odd by conforming to a different culture as a member. One can not evaluate culture on a metric on the assumption of culture" nationality.
