Formal educaion is learning that takes place within an academic seing such as school, that has a planned instrucional process, and teachers who convey speciic knowledge, skills and thinking processes to students. Educaion system has displaced organized religion as main purveyor of formal knowledge. Educaion system also is second in importance only to the family as agent of socializaion. Universal mass educaion is recent phenomenon and is limited to relaively wealthy countries.
