Education system is functional to the preservation of society and social control. How we invent and attach meanings to things/interpretations. What distinguishes us from other species= different interpretations. Education is the process through which you"re taught these meanings. Cooley"s looking glass self: we see ourselves in other people"s reactions and expressions. It"s also the informal education process that happens within groups/circles that teach us values and norms that relate to society. It transmits the dominant ideology onto the population. Science is one way to know about the world. Variable: a concept that varies from situation to situation. Measurement: assigning a value to the variable under any specific conditions. Operationalizing a variable: describe how we are going to measure the variable. Specifying exactly what is to be measured before assigning a value to a variable. Reliability: consistency in measurement, every time it is measured the same way. Are we really measuring what we intend to measure.
