Theories are founded on principles of feminism a new way of looking at human society. Came out of the need to understand why there was an unequal relationship between men and women. Inequality is based on who has power, who has the power makes the identities of other. Anything you get through media is the message an image has no inherit meaning. Who ever owns it controls what the messages is. There are 3 factors to how it gets interpreted: representation: what is done to the message. Who owns it and what do they do with it to portray a particular message: social formation: the context. In which medium: spectator: the response/reaction you get from the person who is reading the message. The desire to control the spectator doesn"t always work. We have to deconstruct messages, we cannot accept them at faced value.
